Power Plate Diaries
They really should have stopped at the opening sentence:
“Sometimes in this job you come across something that sounds too good to be true.”
This article from Shiny Shiny is written by Alex Roumbas and her experience exercising with Power Plate.
She claims to have success with it, but I can’t find any scientific studies to show that working out with the Power Plate is any better than working out without it. Where’s the proof?
It reminds me of an old exercise machine. Back in the 1950’s and 60’s, the cool exercise machine was a vibrating belt. Remember it? It didn’t do much for weight loss back then. Why is this old school machine being brought back out and retooled? I have a hard time believing them the second time around.
I’m ready for the weight loss industry to stop with all the hype. How about you?

My sister has bought one of those. Not that she has any weight to lose, she wants to develop muscle. She told me she can ‘feel it’, but I’m still not convinced (of course you can ‘feel it’ when you’re on some vibrating platform, and feeling doesn’t always mean ‘having an efficient workout’ anyway). Granted, I haven’t tried it myself; I’m just old-school, and prefer to stick to pumpin my good old iron.
Yeah, I think I’m ready too. Keep it simple, people. Simple.

Fair enough; I myself was sceptical although if you tried one out and find out how very sore you were afterwards you wouldn’t doubt SOMETHING was happening. Still, different strokes and all that.
Thanks very much for the reading the article and commenting on it.

I’m sorry, but that thing looks hilarious. I’m not sure how anyone’s supposed to take it seriously….

Alex,
I fixed it. Sorry about the mixup.

To me this thing is a joke – an expensive piece of junk. I’ve also looked for any scientific studies that support this idea and haven’t been able to find anything. Working out doesn’t need to be so complicated – stick with the basics.

i work at a gym in canery wharf, london which has two of the pictured power plate machines and i think that they’re just a gimmick.
I have to show people how to use them and don’t feel any benifit from experimenting with it.
Ladies hit the squat rack instead.

I have tried several machines , some work well others are just gimmicks from China. Power Plate is not the real thing.
