Question of the Week: Favorite Snacks

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

I have a few healthy snacks that help me eat healthy:

  • 94% Fat Free Popcorn
  • Carrot sticks
  • Granny smith apples with lots of salt
  • Diet rootbeer with a 1/4 cup of REAL ice cream

What are your favorite snacks?

  1. Sarabeth Says:

A few cashews, carrots, popcorn, apples, strawberries.

  2. Ernie Says:

Honestly? My favorites lean toward the unhealthy side.

If I could reprogram the world, chocolate would be healthy as would chips and dips, ice cream, you name it.

That being said, I just went to get a snack before reading this post and I chose an apple over everything else (and chocolate was there!).

  3. Megan Says:

Lately, I have been enjoying the weight watchers ice cream bars (giant fudge bars & toffee bars are my favorite!). I also enjoy lowfat popcorn, sometimes sprayed with I can’t believe it’s not butter spray. Carrot sticks & other raw veggies. Also the Hostess 100 calorie pack cupcakes are really good ~ small, but good.

  4. Gal Josefsberg Says:

Oranges are my favorite snacks. If I want something a bit more substantial, I’ll eat a small piece of bread along with a tomato.

  5. iportion Says:

    salted apples, salads, oatmeal, treats.

  6. natasha Says:

Watermellon Broccoli (steamed a little bit in the microwave) fage fat free yogurt (tastes like sour cream) Popcorn carrots soy beans apples grapes

  7. Ernie Says:

Truly? Am I really the only one who will admit that that my favorite snacks include unhealthy choices? I’m not saying that I always pick those. I mean, it’s a matter of responsibility to one’s self.

But really, carrots? Veggies? Low fat or fat free this or that? Really? That’s really a FAVORITE?

I’m certainly not challenging anyone on what their favorite is. I’m just saying, if these are really true favs of the readers of this blog, Laura can close up shop because she’s done it. No one here needs to hear about eating healthy because, if we were stuck on an island alone – we’d bring a carrot and some yummy-liscious fat free, soy dip-type substance to eat with it.

Me? I’m bringing a bag of Dorrito’s and a 24-pack of Coke (the real stuff, not that “Zero” crap I’ve been drinking).

    Happy snacking!

  8. Tovah Says:

I LOVE frozen cherries- thaw them for 30 seconds in the microwave, mix with almond yogurt and sprinkle a few chopped almonds on top. It does the trick for me:)

  9. Shelly Says:

I’m with you Ernie. If I could eat a big bag of chips every night I probably would. I love Doritos, Fritos, Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion chips, all of that and more. I would also devour REAL Cherry Coke not the Coke Zero that I also do not love. And gimme a Charms Blow Pop too!… I also like Quaker Quakes Barbeque rice crisps. Some healthy foods are delish too like apples and pineapples. I could eat those all day, every day.

  10. Lyn Says:

I like air popped popcorn for crunchy. Sorbet for sweet, Pretzel sticks for salty.

I think if I eat sugar or any kind of fast food or diet soda these things trigger an eating frenzy of sorts, something I fell guilty about, so I avoid those things for the most part just out of self preservation.

  11. Kery Says:

Hmm… Bretzels, probably. I’m not too much a snacker, but bretzels always turn me on. 😉 Although these days I quite enjoy bananas, though. An unhealthy and a more healthy choice. I guess that’s average?

  12. Debbie Says:

Raw almonds and grapes, or raw almonds and cheddar cheese…love it!! It’s a good night time snack. Soy beans Watermelon

  13. Meg Says:

    Well,

Diet soda in any form, is not healthy. Water instead. Apples, Oatmeal, carrot sticks, yogurt cups, tea

  14. Picture It: Says:

Snacking has always gotten me into trouble, so I look forward to 6 small healthy meals aday. Knowing that I will have these meals helps me to say “no” to snacking.

  15. natasha Says:

a response to Ernie.. Yes… there are people who do like to eat healthy and choose good snacks..

  16. Ernie Says:

For Natasha… I understand. I wasn’t trying to be difficult or insulting. Like I said, I’m not one to argue with what people say are their favorite of anything.

I enjoy some snacks that would be considered a “healthy option”. As I indicated in my initial post, I chose an apple over the many candied and salted options I had available to me.

It’s still difficult to wrap my arms around the fact that most of those who responded listed a whole nuch of purely healthy snacks. Some didn’t even admit to liking bad things. And some of the list items are just beyond me how they can be called a “favorite”.

Raw almonds: I like them, but a favorite? Carrot sticks: Usually good, but a favorite? Broccoli: Ok, I don’t even count this as a snack!

Of course, there is a fine line between “snack” and “indulgence”. For instance, chocolate stands on that line and taunts me daily.

I was just making the point that these Questions of the Week can be used to really dig down deep to find some truths about yourself.

It’s ok to like bad things. It’s ok to realize that, to embrace it and move on. If you don’t, they could come back to haunt you.

  17. Michelle Says:

How is diet root beer and ice cream a healthy snack?

You’re putting aspartame (in the diet root beer) and sugar and fat into your body. Probably one of the worst things you CAN eat!

Eat more fruit and vegetables. Better for you and you won’t gain any weight.
