Binge-Eating and the Link to Weight Control

Natsuko Sone: Competitive EaterThis article from Wired Magazine made me think about binge eating. It’s about Natsuko Sone, a “food fighter” who regularly competes in eating competitions and out eats sumo wrestlers.

So many “food fighters” or “competitive eaters” are very thin, which has made me consider that overeating may be the way to being thin. Maybe regularly overeating once a month or so and eating healthy the rest of the month trains the body that there will be no famines in the future. Maybe it somehow convinces our bodies that they don’t need to hold on to fat.

I wonder if this has been researched…

I don’t think that’s the way. Although it is an interesting idea, and maybe a study would find what you propose. Even if it was effective, it would just be one of those weird diets that is hard on a person’s body.

I don’t have to eat a lot on purpose. It’s interesting -I’ve been eating whatever I want for a year now, and it’s interesting to notice when I eat what and how much. I defiantely have times that I eat more and times that I crave carbs (usually before my period.)

My naturally skinny roommate eats whatever she wants and observes it but doesn’t try to control it.

(I think it is highly debatable which came first, the skinny or the intuitive eating. I think it’s likely that in our culture the skinny came first. Meaning, that since no one probably started to get worried about how “fat” she was getting, she never tried to control her eating so never got any eating disorders or lesser obsessions about food. This, of course, doesn’t apply to the non-binging eating disorders like anorexia which I think start for other reasons.)

Some people burn more for all we know these woman can exercise like mad and runners can eat more than people who sit. I am binging a little more and showing gains so I am sure that work in the long run though some people do lose more with varied eating days binging and eating more are not the same thing.

I think a lot of people are born with intuitive eating but for some reason some people’s just get broken.
