Question of the Week: Eating Healthy On The Cheap

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

So many times I hear the excuse that eating healthy is too expensive.

Why do you think people have the idea that eating healthy is expensive?

What healthy foods have you found that are inexpensive and tasty?

What foods that are healthy are the most expensive?

What are your favorite recipes for healthy food?

The Question of the Week is meant to be an Inner Workout for you. Find some time during the week and allow yourself to write the answers to the questions posted. You can write them on paper, on a word processor or here in the comments section. Whatever works for you as long as you do it.

Keep writing until you find out something about yourself that you didn’t know before. I’ve also heard that it works to keep writing until you cry, but that doesn’t really work for me. Whatever works for you. Just keep writing until it feels right.

  1. vh Says:
    1. Veggies and fruits are harder to get in someplace in the inner city. There has been stores Aldi and Save a Lot that try to relieve this. Healthy food is generally more expensive. Some foods have to be shipped in.
    2. Low fat powdered milk “Don’t laugh it’s great in smoothies.” Quick oatmeal and old fashioned is cheap and good. Bagged apples are usually cheaper than bulk. Bananas are cheap and you can cut them in half and freeze them. Beans are cheap and can be made in to chili’s, soups, salads, meatless loafs, meatless burgers, and more. Off brand tomato and veggie soups are cheap and easy to make. Canned vegetables though sometimes high in salt is not unhealthy.
    3. Vegetables, fruits and low fat cheeses can be expensive. Meats if they are lean can be expensive.

Smoothies 1/3 cup to 2/3 powdered milk 1 ¾ cup of water to 2 cups. Ice cubes. You can add fruit, or sugar substitute and coco. Use the blender.
