Skinny People Sweat Too

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

Kell, one of the authors at A Blog For Fat Athletes (wish they’d get a catchier name), wrote about her discovery about heavy breathing and sweating during exercise.

She used to think that only fat people sweat or get out of breath and television was partly to blame:

“Once upon a time in the late 1960s, when I was 8, 9 years old, I truly believed that thin people did not sweat or get out of breath. After all, whenever you saw a fat person doing anything athletic on television, they always showed us huffing and puffing.”

The truth is, if you’re exercising at the correct intensity level, you will sweat and breathe heavily, whether you’re skinny or fat. Conversely, if you are “working out” and not even breaking a sweat, you’re not working out hard enough, whether you’re skinny or fat.

The day I realized that skinny people sweat too was the day I was able to feel good about how hard I was working.

That blog seems like fun. I always find great stuff.

During a real hot day I sweated during my workout but ended up gaining. I found out I got better workouts with the AC on. I disagree with her. Sweat does not mean a person is working at their highest intensity. Also some thin/fat people sweat more then other and it doesn’t matter their intensity.

Love to sweat. Don’t feel like I had a good work out unless I do. One problem, because I sweat so much during work out, when I put my workout clothes on for non-workout stuff, my body begins a light sweat as it thinks I am going to work out and is already cooling itself ……..crazy.

VH Melville………..Weighing myself daily would ruin my day, my work out attemp, and my feelings about myself and my daily diet. My scale is in the back of my closet with the batteries removed. I found out the hard way that it was causing more pain than satisfaction. Maybe we will become friends again but not today.
