Videogame Workout: GameRunner Treadmill

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

Unlike me, Glen, from Videogame Workout, was able to try out the Gamerunner Treadmill at CES. He talks about his experience here.

“There’s an upper limit on travel speed – if you run faster than that your character doesn’t go faster. This is probably good from an exercise perspective – game controllers shouldn’t encourage players to collapse of exhaustion to get a better score – but it does takes some getting used to. Walking backwards has no effect.”

I have been playing my Xbox while I ride my exercise bike. The bike isn’t connected to the Xbox in any way, but it is an enjoyable distraction while I work my body.

The games have upper limits to the speed that your character can move. It’s different in each game, and has nothing to do with the controller that you’re using. On the GameRunner, there 10 ratio settings to choose from. At the CES we had it set more for walking so that our demonstrators wouldn’t get worn out. As for backwards, all you have to do is hold the back-up botton in while walking and it reverses the signal from the belt, (this is how the strafing works as well). Further, the steering allows you to pull a full 360 as well, (just keep turning while you’re walking). It sounds as if you didn’t get a full demo of the unit, and for that I am sorry, (we were a bit busy, and really didn’t expect the intense response we got from the buyers). The GameRunner does a lot more than what you have witten. If you go to our website, you can downloand the user-manual and see all of the functions that it has. It’s great with FPS games, and the signal output is universal, so the compatibility can’t be beat. Thanks for mentioning us though. I hope you’ll take a moment to learn more.
