Be A Somebody With A Body
Before Andy Warhol became a famous Pop Artist, he was just an ordinary graphic artist. One of his lesser known creations: Be A Somebody With A Body is one of those works:
Just like the Charles Atlas ads that graced the back of comic books for years, this little piece of art was meant to sell something.
It does give a glimpse into the mind of Andy Warhol, though: You’re not somebody unless you have THAT body.
Is it true? Are only the perfect men and women worth any notice? Evolutionarily, that’s how it has gone, but with the advent of the technological age, shouldn’t the intelligent and witty be the new alpha males? Sadly, no, if you are basing things on first impressions. Sure, the funny guys can win over a girl eventually, but a physically fit guy with a great personality will beat just funny every time.
Of course, it is possible to go too far with this idea. Physically fit is NOT the same as bulked up. In fact, I’ve never seen a physically fit male on the cover of any body builder magazine. They are all mutants.
Am I a somebody if I don’t have a perfect body? Yeah, sure I am, but physical fitness makes me even MORE so. Working toward a perfect body is a worthwhile goal and it’s not all about vanity.

Laura, PLEASE tell me that picture has been photoshopped. Where in the world did you find something so grotesque?

Considering the body Andy Warhol had I think he did that ad for money 🙂

That picture is awful! Scary, too, now that I think of it, because obviously it’s an obsession for that poor man.

Whoa! Is that photo true? I don’t find it attractive. Rather, I find it scary. I don’t think I can ever sleep with my husband if his body will look and feel hard like that in the photo…Sorry, but the man in the photo looks like a mutant or a character in a superhero movie.

Hahahaha of course it’s been photoshopped! I use PS all the time and I guess it’s became second nature to spot fakes, but yes to those wondering that is not his real body.

It’s photoshopped. No doubt. Look at his arms. It’s not physically possible for him to eat with those arms. He’d never get the food to his mouth!

That body is photoshopped, The skin tones are uneven and you can see the seams where they have cut and pasted the head and hands.

Obvious photo shop, but the dedication it would take to look like that would be admirable, although freakish, i would be impressed, there was a time i wanted to look like that, for the feeling of shear power, but i have learned that if theres no purpose then why have the power?

The painting is from 1985, just two years before Warhol’s death, as he already was a famous artist. So this is not an advertising but rather the opposite.
