Gait Analysis
Frazz shows what it’s like to go to a specialty running shoe store and have your gait analyzed. I don’t know why I’m scared to do this. I was much more comfortable trying on shoes at the Nike store and running on the treadmill unanalyzed, even though it was at the entrance to the store for all the strangers to see. Why am I scared to have a professional analyze my running?
I got good shoes at Nike and they have been great for me, but I’m scared to try this.

I imagine that the professionals at most of those stores are super nice, as they make money by selling shoes. I haven’t done it because my physical therapist gave me a shoe recommendation, but I would probably do so otherwise. Mostly you just need to know if you need motion control shoes, cushioned shoes, both, or neither. I need the cushiest shoes you can buy (Asics Gel Nimbus work well for me).

If you were having trouble finding a good running shoe, then it might be worth having the gait analysis done. But it seems like you are very happy with the shoes that you have gotten from Nike and it’s not worth the stress of having the gait analysis done.
I have a pair of Asics that I really like. I have used New Balance in the past and really like their shoes too. I have never tried Nike before. I might have to go check it out the next time that I need a new pair of exercise shoes.

Where can I get this done? I’ve struggled finding a good pair of running shoes for my entire career in the Army (19 years so far). The only advice the master fitness trainers have ever given me is, “keep looking.” I go through a pair every 4-6 months. If someone could tell me what would help me, I’d keep buying from them.

If you are worried about having a gait analysis at a store, Podiatrists also offer gait analysis which would be done in the privacy of the clinic. Also, if you see a Podiatrist and you needed orthotics they would be able to either custom make or prescribe off the shelf devices for you.
Like ellie says, I’m sure the assistants in the store would be very nice and professional.
Good luck!
